Racing Home and Women in Racing today announce the publication of a new handbook for both employees and employers in the sport of horseracing, focused on supporting parents to remain within the industry.
Entitled “Motherhood and Horseracing: Before, During and After Pregnancy Considerations for Parents and Employers”, this guide contains information and resources designed to help those on the road to becoming parents, as well as those that employ others who may be pregnant, post-partum or considering parenthood. Both adoption and surrogacy are touched upon, as well as both the physical and mental health considerations that may be useful for everyone to be aware of.
About Racing Home: The Racing Home project, funded by the Racing Foundation and FDJ United, has as its core objective the improvement of the working lives of parents and carers in the horseracing industry. It seeks to ensure that all employees have an understanding of their basic rights and entitlements and can talk openly about the challenges they experience as a working mother, father, or carer. Rather than a taboo subject, their needs can be embraced inclusively by racing’s employers who will see the benefits of investing in the quality of life of parents, both in terms of retention, a more motivated workforce and overall sustainability.
Racing Home is leading the way through education; signposting and highlighting good working practices via both the web portal and the Racing Home podcast.
